Discovering San Pietro

San Pietro di Laion (St. Peter in Lajen) is a hamlet of the municipality of Laion (Lajen), in the province of Bolzano, located on a sunny plateau at the entrance to Val Gardena. At over 1,100 meters above sea level, this small village offers a perfect mix of unspoiled nature, Alpine tradition, and breathtaking scenery. While administratively part of the Isarco Valley, it lies at the crossroads of the German, Italian, and Ladin cultures.

In summer, San Pietro is the ideal starting point for scenic hikes, walking tours, and cycling excursions. Trails lead through meadows, farms, and panoramic viewpoints towards Laion, Albions, and the Dolomites. Local mountain huts and farm inns serve typical South Tyrolean dishes like speck, dumplings, and homemade desserts.

The village preserves a rich historical heritage: the Church of San Pietro is one of the oldest sacred buildings in South Tyrol, with well-preserved Romanesque and Gothic elements. The traditional center, with wooden houses and flowered balconies, reflects the charm of Alpine rural life.
