Discovering Bolzano

Bolzano, the capital of South Tyrol, is a city where Alpine and Mediterranean cultures blend harmoniously. A walk through the historic center, with its arcades, charming squares, and colorful buildings, reveals a unique atmosphere. Don’t miss Walther Square, the Gothic Cathedral of the Assumption, the vibrant market at Piazza delle Erbe, and the medieval arcades.

Among the museums, the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology is a must, home to the world-famous Ötzi the Iceman. Also worth visiting are the Museum of Nature, the Civic Museum, and the Merchant’s Museum. Just outside the center stands Castel Roncolo, known for its well-preserved medieval frescoes.

Bolzano is also a city of events: from the Bolzano Festival Bozen to the Long Night of Museums, and the magical Christmas Markets, among the most beautiful in Italy, which transform the city in winter.

In summer, Bolzano is a perfect base for hiking, cycling, or wine tours, especially on the Renon Plateau, easily reached by cable car. In winter, the nearby Renon Horn and Salto Plateau offer great opportunities for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and family-friendly skiing.

With its multicultural charm, authentic South Tyrolean cuisine, fine wines, and a rich calendar of cultural events, Bolzano is a year-round destination full of discovery.
