Discovering Lago Pudro

Lake Pudro, located in the municipality of Pergine Valsugana at approximately 504 meters above sea level, is one of the most valuable wetland areas in Trentino. Included in the Brenta Nature Reserve Network and designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and Provincial Biotope, the lake covers around 13 hectares, nestled between the Doss del Zucàr hill and the hamlet of Canzolino.

Originally an active peat bog, Lake Pudro underwent environmental changes due to industrial peat extraction, which altered its natural balance. Today, it is a protected biotope where rare wetland vegetation still survives: sedge beds, reed beds with common reed, wet alder forests, and the unique floating mat, a dense carpet of intertwined aquatic plants once considered the largest of its kind in Trentino.

The fauna is equally rich: visitors can spot grey herons, kingfishers, little bitterns, dabchicks, water rails, ducks, geese, and green frogs, making the site ideal for birdwatching and nature photography. A walking and cycling path run along the southern edge of the lake, featuring a viewing tower and a small amphitheatre for educational and cultural activities.
