Discovering Lagolo Lake

Located at 950 meters above sea level on the western slope of Monte Bondone, in the municipality of Madruzzo, Lake Lagolo is a natural gem in the Valle dei Laghi, surrounded by tranquil alpine scenery. Enclosed by beech and fir forests, meadows, and cultivated fields, the lake is fed by underground springs and seasonal runoff. In winter, its surface freezes completely, creating a magical, fairy-tale setting.

During summer, the lake is suitable for swimming, with fresh, clear waters that attract hikers, families, and nature lovers. A loop trail encircles the lake and extends to panoramic viewpoints over the Sarca Valley, with vistas of the Adamello, Monte Casale, and the Brenta Dolomites. The area is ideal for trekking, mountain biking, stand-up paddleboarding, and canoeing, with seasonal rental options available.

Local folklore tells of a forest once located higher up the mountain, magically submerged to form the lake. Remnants of this ancient woodland are said to be visible beneath the water’s surface. The lake is also believed to have healing properties for the skin, adding to its mystical allure.

Easily accessible from Trento and the Val di Cavedine, Lake Lagolo is a peaceful destination for those seeking nature, hiking, and sustainable tourism in one of the quietest corners of western Trentino.
