Discovering Passo de la Nana

Passo de la Nana, located at approximately 2100 meters above sea level in the heart of the Adamello Brenta Nature Park, is one of the most captivating alpine passes in western Trentino, nestled within the vast natural amphitheater of Pian della Nana. This high plateau, stretching 5 km long and 1 km wide, unfolds between the ridges of Monte Peller, Sasso Rosso, Cima Nana, and Cima Cesta, offering breathtaking landscapes and a truly authentic hiking experience far from the beaten path.

The pass is accessible via a circular trail starting from the Monte Peller mountain hut, winding through historic alpine farms such as Malga Tassulla, Malga Clesera, and the scenic Lago delle Salare. The area is ideal for day hikes, nature photography, and wildlife observation, with marmots, goats, horses, and sheep grazing freely across the meadows.

From a cultural perspective, the malghe (traditional alpine dairies) preserve the heritage of transhumance and offer genuine local dairy products such as alpine butter, caciotta cheese, goat ricotta, lard, and salami. The silence, vastness, and biodiversity of Pian della Nana create an experience that many hikers describe as “Tibetan,” thanks to its rarefied and contemplative atmosphere.

Passo de la Nana is the perfect destination for those seeking slow tourism, panoramic hikes, and a deep connection with nature. A hidden gem of the Trentino Dolomites, where time slows down and beauty reveals itself in every detail.
