Discovering Ossana

Ossana, a picturesque village in the Val di Sole in Trentino, is one of the most charming destinations in the Brenta Dolomites, officially recognized among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy. Located at 970 meters above sea level, Ossana captivates visitors with its authentic atmosphere, flower-lined alleys, stone houses, and a rich historical and cultural heritage.

The symbol of the village is the Castle of San Michele, a medieval fortress dating back to the 12th century, perched on a rocky spur overlooking the valley. During the Christmas season, Ossana transforms into the renowned Village of 1000 Nativity Scenes, with over 1600 handcrafted cribs displayed along the streets, courtyards, and hidden corners of the historic center.

Among the main points of interest are the Church of San Vigilio, featuring frescoes and a baroque altar, and the House of Frescoes, adorned by the Baschenis family and recognized as a “Place of the Heart” by the FAI (Italian Environmental Fund). Also worth visiting is the Stuva Nova, an ancient rectory rebuilt after the 1918 fire, now a guardian of the valley’s material culture.

In summer, Ossana becomes a starting point for excursions into the Stelvio National Park, visits to Bosco Derniga—an interactive garden dedicated to alpine biodiversity - and outdoor activities such as rafting on the Noce River, trekking, and e-biking.
