Discovering Martell

The Martello Valley, a side valley of the Venosta Valley, is one of the wildest and most captivating areas in South Tyrol. The village of Martello, situated at around 1,300 meters above sea level, lies within the Stelvio National Park, offering an unspoiled environment rich in biodiversity—ideal for hikers, families and nature lovers.

Among the natural highlights are the scenic Lake Gioveretto, surrounded by panoramic trails, and the dramatic Plima Gorge, crossed by a suspended bridge leading to the Rifugio Nino Corsi. The area boasts over 220 km of marked trails, ranging from easy valley walks to high-altitude routes in the Ortler-Cevedale mountain group, with breathtaking views of glaciers and snow-capped peaks.

Martello is also famous for its cultivation of mountain strawberries, celebrated along the Südtiroler Erdbeer-Weg, a themed trail that winds through strawberry fields and traditional farmsteads. The Culturamartell Visitor Center offers interactive exhibits on mountain farming and alpine cultural landscapes, with educational activities for schools and families.

In winter, the valley becomes a peaceful haven for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, thanks to its altitude and serene snowy scenery. Mountain huts like the Rifugio Martello and Rifugio Nino Corsi provide warm hospitality and local cuisine even in the high season.
