Discovering Lago Ghiacciato

Lago Ghiacciato, located in the municipality of Vermiglio in Val di Sole, is one of the most spectacular and remote alpine lakes in the Adamello Brenta Nature Park. Nestled at approximately 2,400 meters above sea level, beneath the rocky walls of Cima Presanella, this small glacial lake can only be reached on foot via a hiking trail that starts from Rifugio Denza.

Its name - “Ghiacciato” meaning “Frozen” - is no coincidence: even in midsummer, the lake may display floating ice sheets, due to its altitude and proximity to perennial snowfields. The landscape is dominated by granite rock formations, high-altitude meadows, and an absolute silence that makes it a perfect destination for those seeking authentic hiking, nature photography, and a deep connection with the mountains.

The historic Rifugio Denza, built in 1898 and dedicated to geologist Francesco Denza, serves as a base for mountaineers heading toward Presanella and for experienced hikers. The area is also linked to the memory of World War I, with trenches and historic paths crossing the surrounding valleys.
