Discovering Pelugo

Nestled in the heart of Val Rendena, at the foot of the Adamello Brenta Nature Park, lies Pelugo, a charming village in Trentino that preserves the authentic soul of the Dolomites. Located at the entrance to the wild and scenic Borzago Valley, Pelugo is a starting point for hikes and alpine excursions toward the glaciers of Lares and Carè Alto, popular among mountaineers and nature lovers.


The village is home to the prehistoric hillfort of San Zeno, evidence of ancient settlements, and features remarkable historical buildings. Among them, the cemetery church of Saint Anthony Abbot stands out, adorned with 15th-century frescoes attributed to Cristoforo Baschenis, a member of the renowned Baschenis family of painters from Bergamo. Nearby, the parish church of San Zeno adds to the village’s rich sacred heritage.


Pelugo is surrounded by alpine landscapes ideal for outdoor activities: trekking, mountain biking, and peaceful walks along the Rio Bedù and through the Masere Park, a green area nestled between two branches of the Sarca River. In winter, its proximity to the ski resorts of Pinzolo and Madonna di Campiglio makes it a quiet base for snow holidays.


The village also preserves its artisanal traditions: historic forges along the Bedù stream, wrought iron craftsmanship, walnut oil pressing, and ancient trades linked to silk and timber reflect Pelugo’s productive past.
