Discovering Magrè sulla Strada del Vino

Magrè on the Wine Road is a charming destination located at the southern tip of the province of Bolzano, in the Oltradige-Bassa Atesina region, which it joined in 1946. It is one of the oldest municipalities and a highly important wine-growing area in South Tyrol, surrounded by historic villages, noble palaces, mountains, and vineyards, perfect for a holiday of peace and relaxation.

The village’s historic character is evident in its ancient streets, fountains, narrow lanes, and picturesque corners. Several noble residences feature architectural elements in Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance styles, while the parish church of Santa Gertrude, in Gothic style, is one of the most unusual attractions in the Lower Adige area: since the 17th century, the bell tower has been separated from the nave, and the Baroque interiors are among the finest in South Tyrol.

Nature lovers will find numerous attractions: Monte Favogna, a hiking paradise with rare plants and animals; the Corno di Tres, a natural border with Trentino, offering spectacular views of the Val di Non and Lower Adige; and Lake Favogna, rich in flora and fauna. Noteworthy are the weeping stone of Niclara, a natural monument that in winter creates a fascinating display of icicles, and the century-old vine of Magrè, dating back to 1600, one of the oldest in Central Europe.

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy numerous excursions: bike tours in Favogna along alpine roads lined with vineyards, cycling along the southern section of the Wine Road, the Magrè-Favogna via ferrata for experienced climbers, and peaceful walks along the historic Römerweg trail to Favogna. Magrè is the perfect destination to combine history, culture, nature, and fine wine in one unforgettable experience.
