Discovering Valfloriana

Valfloriana is a picturesque municipality in Val di Fiemme, made up of the villages of Barcatta, Casanova, Casatta, Dorà, Montalbiano, Sicina, Valle, and Villaggio, perched along the southwestern end of the valley at the entrance to Val di Cembra. Thanks to its secluded location, the village offers a peaceful atmosphere deeply connected to ancient traditions.

By day, Valfloriana is perfect for hikers and snowshoe enthusiasts exploring the wild Lagorai Mountain Range, while in the evening it attracts lovers of authentic local cuisine in its traditional farmhouses. After a romantic walk among the birch woods, visitors can tour the stables, renowned for the extraordinary care of the cows’ physical and mental well-being.

The village is famous for the Matòci Carnival, celebrated every year with a long parade of characters wearing wooden masks (facère) and colorful costumes. Following the parade from village to village, visitors can taste typical dishes and local cheeses, such as zigare (cones of ricotta with salt and pepper) and the ancient Casat cheese.

Of historical interest is the town hall building, which was a Romanesque church until the mid-20th century. Within its walls are the bell tower and apse, featuring 15th-century frescoes of the German school, probably attributed to Albrecht Dürer or one of his students, highlighting the village’s rich artistic heritage.
