Discovering Cortina sulla Strada del Vino

Cortina sulla Strada del Vino (Kurtinig an der Weinstraße) is a charming village located in the Bassa Atesina area of South Tyrol, nestled among lush vineyards, well-kept orchards, and glimpses of rural artistry. Covering just 1.98 km², it is one of the smallest municipalities in the Province of Bolzano, yet it boasts a rich cultural and natural heritage that makes it a perfect destination for authentic experiences.

Situated along the renowned South Tyrolean Wine Road, Cortina serves as an ideal starting point for food and wine itineraries exploring the region’s exceptional wines, including Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, and Schiava.

The village is distinguished by its historic houses adorned with pergolas and a cobbled central square with a pulley-operated well, offering scenic views and a welcoming atmosphere. A highlight is the Church of Saint Martin, the local patron saint, rebuilt in Baroque style between 1792 and 1795, housing precious stained glass windows and sacred artworks.

Cortina offers visitor-friendly experiences: from the educational “Weingartenrunde” trail winding through nearby vineyards and biotopes, to the Adige-BiciGries cycle path, ideal for family excursions. Just north of the village stands the impressive 19th-century Adige flood wall, a historic testament to local hydraulic engineering.

Events such as Kurtinig Wine & More (June) and the Feast of Saint Martin (November) enliven the village with music, flavors, and tradition.
