Discovering Passo di Costalunga

Passo di Costalunga, located at 1,745 meters above sea level between the Catinaccio and Latemar Mountain groups, is one of the most iconic Dolomite passes in Trentino-Alto Adige, nestled between Nova Levante and Vigo di Fassa.

In summer, Passo di Costalunga offers a wide range of well-marked hiking trails suitable for all skill levels. Among the most popular routes are those leading to Lake Carezza, Rifugio Roda di Vael, Rifugio Fronza alle Coronelle, and Malga Frommer. The landscape is defined by conifer forests, alpine meadows, and breathtaking views of the Dolomite peaks. The area is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its geological and scenic significance.

In winter, the pass hosts the Carezza Ski Area, ideal for families and beginner skiers, with wide, sunny, and well-maintained slopes. The ski lifts connect the pass to the Catinaccio and Latemar ski areas, offering easy access to the Dolomiti Superski circuit.

From a cultural perspective, Passo di Costalunga retains a refined and historic atmosphere. The renowned Grand Hotel Carezza, once frequented by figures such as Empress Sissi and Winston Churchill, reflects the area's long-standing importance as a tourist destination since the 19th century.

The pass is easily accessible from Moena, Obereggen, San Cipriano, Nova Levante, and Passo Nigra, with hiking trails ranging from 1 to 4 hours in duration.
