Discovering Passo Duran

Passo Duran, at 1,605 meters in the heart of the Belluno Dolomites, marks the boundary between Cadore and Agordino, offering sweeping views of Antelao, Marmolada and the spires of the Dolomiti d’Oltrepiave. Traversed by the historic Strada delle Dolomiti, the pass is easily reached by car, motorcycle or bike, making it perfect for day-trip explorers.

Around the pass, trekking and mountain-bike trails wind along old mule tracks, Swiss pine forests and alpine pastures. The route to Lake Duran, with its vivid turquoise waters, delivers unforgettable panoramas, while the ascent to Forcella Aurine opens onto broad, carved valleys. Cycling enthusiasts can challenge themselves on the Maratona dles Dolomites stage or tackle the amateur route of the Giro d’Italia.

Passo Duran also preserves echoes of World War I: alongside the mule tracks rise the remains of bivouacs, barracks and shelters from the Linea Comelico, now part of interpretive historical routes.

In summer, wildlife from marmots to golden eagles enlivens the trails, while in winter the pass becomes a destination for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Every August, the Festival delle Malghe brings folk music and local tastings to the pass, and the star-filled nights of Alpine Stargazing draw sky-watchers from afar. Passo Duran is your gateway to an authentic Dolomites experience, where nature, history and culture converge.
