Discovering Forcella di Lavardet

Forcella di Lavardet is a mountain pass at about 1,542 m between Campolongo and Canale di Gorto, famous for its 14 panoramic hairpin bends that make it an iconic destination for cyclists, motorcyclists, and photographers. The road, partly unpaved and often closed to motor traffic, remains accessible by bicycle; in winter it is generally closed and can become impassable after heavy rains, with a wooden bridge over the Torrente Frison along the route.

Climbing from the SP465 in Val Frison, the hairpins begin around km 3.8 and offer a sequence of historic curves, built in the early 20th century, still fascinating today and perfect for cycle tourism and mountain biking. MTB itineraries such as the ascent to Sella di Razzo from Campolongo via the pass confirm the spectacular nature of the route and its significant elevation gain.

From the pass, wide views open over the basin of Casera Razzo and the valleys of San Pietro di Cadore and the Val Pesarina, with hiking trails that cross alpine huts and high pastures, ideal for summer trekking and landscape photography.

The Forcella di Lavardet is also tied to the alpine traditions of the Comelico and the Carnia, areas that preserve examples of rural architecture, ancient water-powered sawmills, and a mountain cuisine based on polenta, malga cheeses, herbs, and honey.
