Discovering Laghetto al Vach

Nestled in the quiet Val Barance, the Laghetto al Vach is a hidden natural gem in the Belluno Dolomites—an ideal destination for those seeking a peaceful escape amid conifer forests and breathtaking views. Sitting at 1,361 meters above sea level, this alpine lake with emerald green waters, is framed by the majestic peaks of the Tamer-San Sebastiano group and fed by a charming waterfall that flows straight from the rocks.

Perfect for families and hiking enthusiasts, the trail to the lake starts in Pralongo, a hamlet of Forno di Zoldo, and is easy enough for children. The path winds through ancient woods and flower-filled clearings with stunning vistas of Mount Pelmo and Civetta. A well-equipped picnic area with tables and benches makes Laghetto al Vach ideal for a full day outdoors, surrounded by nature and serenity.

Beyond its scenic beauty, the area holds traces of local history. Nearby lies Colcerver, a historic village with wooden barns and a 17th-century church dedicated to Saints Hermagoras and Fortunatus. Also worth a visit is the fusinèla of Pralongo, an old forge that tells the story of the valley’s metallurgical tradition—once thriving thanks to the production of nails and tools for the Serenissima Republic.

Laghetto al Vach is a must-see for anyone wanting to experience the Dolomites at their most genuine—where untouched nature meets alpine culture and postcard-worthy views.
