Discovering Moena

Moena, nicknamed the Fairy of the Dolomites, is the largest village in the Val di Fassa, nestled among the peaks of Latemar, Catinaccio, and Marmolada. Located at approximately 1,200 meters above sea level, it serves as an ideal starting point for excursions to the Fuciade Basin, Passo San Pellegrino, and the Paneveggio – Pale di San Martino Natural Park, with trails suitable for all levels.

Moena is a vibrant center of Ladin culture, where history, architecture, and tradition intertwine in a living narrative. The Viac Cultural route guides visitors through 17th-century frescoes, historic fountains, and alpine-style houses that reflect the identity of the Fassa valley. The Church of San Vigilio, consecrated in 1164, houses work by local artists such as Cirillo Dell’Antonio and Valentino Rovisi, and stands as a spiritual and artistic landmark. The Turchia District, with its legend of the Ottoman soldier welcomed by the community, symbolizes hospitality and folk memory, celebrated annually with a traditional festival. Moena also hosts the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme, a historic institution that safeguards the Ladin linguistic and cultural heritage.

In winter, Moena connects to the Alpe Lusia – San Pellegrino ski area, part of the Dolomiti Superski, while in summer it becomes a destination for trekking, cycling, and outdoor adventures. Ladin cuisine takes center stage with dishes like the famous Puzzone di Moena DOP, a Slow Food delicacy.
