Discovering Ortisei
Ortisei, nestled in the heart of Val Gardena, is one of the most enchanting villages in the Dolomites, renowned for its alpine elegance, artistic heritage, and top-tier tourism offerings. Located at 1,236 meters above sea level, it serves as the main hub of the valley and an ideal starting point for hikes to Seceda, Mount Rasciesa, the Alpe di Siusi, and the Puez-Odle Nature Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Its pedestrian-friendly historic center, considered among the most beautiful in the Dolomites, is alive with boutiques, cafés, gourmet restaurants, and craft workshops. Ortisei is internationally recognized for wood carving, a tradition dating back to the 17th century and still thriving in local studios and the Museum Gherdëina, which showcases Ladin culture and the works of local artists such as Luis Trenker and Josef Moroder-Lusenberg.
In winter, Ortisei connects directly to the Dolomiti Superski area, providing access to the legendary Sellaronda ski circuit. Summer unveils a network of panoramic trails, via ferratas, and theme paths suitable for every skill level. Historical churches like those of Saint Ulrich, Saint Anthony, and Saint Jacob enrich the town’s spiritual and artistic heritage.
Ortisei also hosts cultural events such as the traditional Ladin costume parade, local markets, and music festivals celebrating the identity of Val Gardena.
