Discovering Terlan

Terlano, a charming village located along the South Tyrolean Wine Road, is nestled among well-tended vineyards and fragrant apple orchards, halfway between Bolzano and Merano. Thanks to its mild climate and fertile soil, it is one of the region’s most prized wine areas, famous for its white wine Terlano DOC, particularly the refined Pinot Bianco, but also for excellent reds such as Lagrein and Merlot.

The town is dominated by the remains of the picturesque Castel Neuhaus, also known as Maultasch, reachable by a short panoramic walk. Not to be missed is the parish church of Maria Assunta, with its Gothic bell tower and 14th-century frescoes. In the historic center, an authentic atmosphere still prevails, among arcades, old inns, and historic wine cellars.

Terlano is the ideal starting point for hikes and bike trips through orchards and vineyards, or for relaxing walks along the wine trail. In spring, the blooming apple orchards transform the landscape into a fragrant white sea.

Local gastronomy highlights the region’s products: try the Terlano asparagus, served with Bolzano-style sauce and boiled eggs, accompanied by a glass of Weißburgunder. In restaurants and farmhouses, you can also enjoy canederli, speck, local cheeses, and typical sweets like strudel.

Terlano combines nature, taste, and culture in perfect harmony: a small corner of South Tyrol where every season has a unique flavor.
