Discovering Portjoch

Forcella di Porto, known in German as Portjoch, is a scenic mountain pass located at 2,110 meters above sea level along the alpine ridge marking the border between South Tyrol and the Austrian Tyrol. Nestled in an untouched natural setting, this pass connects the area around Lake Obernberg with the upper Fleres Valley, offering breathtaking views of the Tribulaun, Sattelberg, and the surrounding Dolomite peaks.

Forcella di Porto is an ideal destination for experienced hikers, history enthusiasts, and lovers of wild alpine landscapes. The trail leading to the pass crosses the Porters Plateau and forms part of the renowned Fleres High Route, which links the Tribulaun Hut to the Steiner Alm and the Magdeburger Hut, passing through alpine environments of rare beauty.

Along the way, visitors encounter well-preserved remains of Austro-Hungarian fortifications from World War I, seamlessly integrated into the mountain scenery. In summer, the area is popular among hikers and mountain bikers, while autumn offers vivid colors and peaceful silence - perfect for slow travel.

Just below the pass lies the charming Steiner Alm (1,737 m), a traditional alpine hut where visitors can enjoy local dairy products and panoramic views of the surrounding valleys.
