Discovering Floitenjoch
Floitenjoch is a high-altitude alpine pass located in the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park, on the border between South Tyrol and East Tyrol, at approximately 2,310 meters above sea level. A wild and evocative place, it’s ideal for experienced hikers and lovers of authentic mountain landscapes.
The Floitenjoch connects the Tures Valley with the Austrian Floitental, crossing areas of rare beauty: glaciers, glacial moraines, high mountain pastures, and breathtaking views of peaks such as the Große Löffler and the Hochgall. The trail leading to the pass is demanding and requires good physical condition, but offers a unique experience for those seeking direct contact with alpine nature.
Nearby villages like Riva di Tures and Campo Tures offer a glimpse into South Tyrolean culture, with rural architecture, local cuisine, and traditional hospitality. Floitenjoch is also a starting point for hikes to mountain huts and alpine farms, where visitors can enjoy speck, alpine cheeses, and apple strudel.
In summer, the pass attracts mountaineers, nature photographers, and trekking enthusiasts, while in winter it becomes a destination for ski touring and snowshoeing. The area is part of the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park, home to ibex, marmots, golden eagles, and an extraordinary alpine flora.
