Discovering Kesselscharte

The Kesselscharte, located at approximately 2,310 meters above sea level, is a striking mountain saddle nestled between the Tierser Alpl Hut and the southern slopes of the Rosengarten Group, in the heart of the Sciliar–Catinaccio Nature Park. Surrounded by jagged Dolomite peaks and alpine meadows, it offers one of the most scenic viewpoints in the South Tyrolean Dolomites, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The most popular route starts from the Seiser Alm (Alpe di Siusi), Europe’s largest alpine plateau, and follows the Friedrich August Trail or Trail No. 2, leading to the Tierser Alpl Hut. From there, hikers ascend to the Kesselscharte, a key junction for treks toward Molignon, the Rosszähne Ridge, and the Antermoia Hut, with options to continue into the Val di Fassa.

This area is steeped in alpine legend: according to Ladin folklore, King Laurin hid his enchanted rose garden among these peaks, making the Rosengarten one of the most mythical places in the Dolomites. The hike to Kesselscharte is ideal for experienced hikers, nature photographers, and mountain lovers, thanks to its crystal-clear light, dramatic contrasts, and rich geological diversity.
