Discovering Grubscharte

The Grubscharte, located above Campo Tures in the Riva Valley, is a spectacular alpine saddle offering 360° views over the Rieserferner Group, the peaks of the Ahrntal Valley, and the glaciers along the Austrian border. Set within the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park, it is a sought-after destination for experienced hikers and lovers of authentic mountain landscapes.

The trail to reach it winds through larch and spruce forests, high-altitude pastures, and rocky stretches, with clear CAI/AVS waymarking. This medium-to-high difficulty route often starts from Riva di Tures and can be combined with ascents to nearby summits or traverses to huts such as the Rifugio Roma or Rifugio Porro. In summer, the Grubscharte is perfect for trekking and landscape photography; in autumn, the colours of the forests make the hike unforgettable.

From a naturalistic perspective, the area is home to ibex, marmots, and golden eagles, while in spring the alpine meadows burst into bloom. Culturally, the pass lies in a territory rich in farming traditions, mountain legends, and ancient transit routes.
