Velturno, a charming village in the Eisack Valley at 850 meters above sea level, lies between Brixen and Klausen and is the perfect destination for nature lovers, culture seekers, and those in search of Alpine peace. Surrounded by ancient chestnut groves, it enjoys a mild climate and breathtaking views of the Dolomites.
Don't miss the splendid Velturno Castle, a Renaissance residence of the Prince-Bishops of Brixen, featuring period furnishings and well-preserved frescoes. The village center is full of traditional farmhouses, small churches, and authentic atmosphere.
Velturno is crossed by the famous Chestnut Trail (Keschtnweg), a scenic hiking route from Brixen to Bolzano through forests, vineyards, and mountain farms. It's especially popular in autumn during the Törggelen season—celebrating chestnuts, new wine, and South Tyrolean cuisine.
In summer, the area is perfect for hiking and MTB excursions to Latzfons, St. Maurice, and Monte Pascolo, with trails for all levels. In winter, Velturno offers snowy landscapes, silence, and easy access to ski slopes in nearby Plose.
