Discovering Verano - Voeran

Nestled on the Monzoccolo plateau, between Bolzano and Merano, the village of Verano is a small gem of South Tyrol, enchanting visitors with its sunny location, green landscapes, and authentic atmosphere. It belongs to the Burgraviato of Merano and can be easily reached by car via the road from Meltina or with the modern Postal cable car, which takes just eight minutes to reach this peaceful plateau.

In summer, Verano is a true hiker’s paradise. Numerous trails cross forests, meadows, and traditional farmsteads, offering unforgettable views of the Adige Valley and the surrounding peaks. A must-see destination are the three Red Rocks, rounded volcanic tuff formations that rise as spectacular panoramic viewpoints.

On one of these stands the famous Knottnkino, the “open-air cinema”: rows of wooden and metal chairs are arranged like in a theater, but here the show is provided by nature. From this vantage point, the view stretches from the Texel Group to the Corno Bianco, from the Penegal to the Passeier Valley and the Ultimo Valley.

In winter, Verano is an excellent starting point for the ski areas of Merano 2000 and San Vigilio in Lana. After a day on the snow, the village welcomes visitors with its tranquillity and idyllic scenery.

Walking through Verano, one can see ancient Bavarian-style barns, evidence of the region’s agricultural roots, standing alongside the largest photovoltaic plant in South Tyrol, a symbol of a community looking to the future with sustainability in mind.
