Discovering Jaufen Pass

Passo di Monte Giovo (Jaufen Pass), located at an altitude of 2,094 meters, is the northernmost alpine pass in Italy, connecting San Leonardo in Passiria with Vipiteno via the State Road SS44. Nestled in the heart of South Tyrol, this scenic route is a favorite among motorcyclists, hikers, and cyclists, thanks to its dramatic hairpin turns and untouched nature.

The road winds between the Stubai Alps and Sarntal Alps, offering sweeping views of spruce forests, alpine meadows, and towering peaks like Jaufenspitze (2,481 m) and Saxner (2,358 m). Along the way, visitors can stop at cozy mountain huts such as the Edelweißhütte, perfect for a scenic break.

For trekking enthusiasts, this pass is the gateway to hiking routes towards Flecknerspitze, Glaitnerspitze, and Jaufenspitze, with trails suitable for all experience levels and well marked for safety.

In autumn, the region comes alive with Törggelen, a beloved local tradition that celebrates new wine and South Tyrolean cuisine: enjoy speck, bread dumplings, roasted chestnuts, and delicious filled krapfen in traditional mountain taverns.
