Discovering Staulanza Pass

The Staulanza Pass (also known as Forcella Staulanza, 1,766 m a.s.l.) is a picturesque alpine pass in the Dolomiti di Zoldo, located in the province of Belluno. The pass lies between the slopes of Monte Crot, in the Monte Civetta group, and those of Pelmetto, in the Pelmo massif. Belonging to the municipality of Val di Zoldo and close to the borders of Selva di Cadore and Borca di Cadore, the pass is crossed by the provincial road SP 251, which connects the Val di Zoldo with the Val Fiorentina.


At the pass stands the Rifugio Passo Staulanza (around 1,770 m), equipped with a restaurant and bed accommodation. The hut is an important stage stop of the Alta Via No. 1 of the Dolomites and represents a convenient starting point for spectacular excursions around the Pelmo, Civetta, and Croda da Lago.


During the summer season, the Staulanza Pass is the perfect base for numerous outdoor activities. Among the most popular hikes is the walk to the Rifugio Città di Fiume, set in a stunning landscape. Climbing enthusiasts can challenge themselves on the walls of Civetta and Pelmo, famous for their variety of routes. For those who prefer two wheels, the trails offer paths suitable for every level of mountain biking, with breathtaking views.


In winter, the Staulanza Pass becomes a paradise for snow sports. Nearby are the ski areas of the Val di Zoldo and Selva di Cadore, offering slopes for alpine skiing of all levels. For snowshoe lovers, the trails in the surrounding woods are perfect for peaceful snow hikes. Cross-country skiing enthusiasts can head to the nearby Palafavera, which offers well-maintained loops immersed in nature. Moreover, the area is popular among lovers of ski mountaineering, who can explore scenic and less-traveled routes.
