Discovering San Tomaso Agordino

San Tomaso Agordino, a small mountain town in the province of Belluno, is a hidden gem in the Dolomites UNESCO. Here, unspoiled nature, outdoor adventure, and ancient traditions come together in perfect harmony.

Surrounded by conifer forests, alpine pastures, and the majestic Auta mountain chain (part of the Marmolada Group), this area offers endless possibilities for hiking. From scenic trails for experienced trekkers like the climb to Cima Sasso Bianco (2407 m), to easier walks between the hamlets, there's something for everyone. More challenging routes include the Alta Via dei Pastori, one of the Dolomites’ most scenic traverses.

Popular routes start from Piaia and Pecol, leading to the Sasso Bianco Hut and the Tabiai di Ciamp plateau, crossing streams, woods, and panoramic viewpoints.

For thrill-seekers, San Tomaso is home to the highest zipline in the Dolomites: a breathtaking 1.6 km cable ride suspended 160 metres above the ground. The Dolomiti Zipline starts in Canacede, passes Costoia, and ends in the main square of Celat.

Despite modern times, San Tomaso has preserved its authentic alpine character. Among stone houses, historic wooden barns (known as tabià), chapels, fountains, and even an ancient well (in Piaia), one can still breathe the charm of mountain village life.

In Celat, the famous "Vaticano" house stands out — a large 18th-century residence with frescoes and traditional architecture. Nearby is the Planetarium Emigranti, built in 2004, with a dome for up to 25 viewers and a projector simulating 2,400 celestial bodies.

Indoor sport lovers will enjoy the Vertik Area Dolomiti, a modern indoor climbing gym with restaurant, bar and full services.
