Discovering Forcella Pomagagnon

The Forcella Pomagagnon is one of the most scenic viewpoints in the Dolomiti d’Ampezzo, located at 2,170 meters along the ridgeline of the impressive Pomagagnon group, a natural symbol of Cortina d’Ampezzo. This spectacular mountain saddle is a perfect destination for experienced hikers in search of wide open views and alpine silence.

The hike to Forcella Pomagagnon offers an immersive experience among Dolomite rock formations, wild scree slopes, and 360° panoramic landscapes. From here, hikers can enjoy spectacular views of the Cristallo, Sorapiss, Croda da Lago, and the Tofane peaks. Below lies the entire Ampezzo Valley.

The most popular trail starts in Fiames, just above Cortina, and follows well-marked but steep paths with a considerable elevation gain (over 900 meters). Along the way, hikers pass through larch forests, rocky stretches, and high-altitude pastures, often home to ibex and marmots.

The saddle is also a crossing point between the Pomagagnon peaks and a good base for experienced climbers aiming to summit the surrounding peaks.

In summer, the Forcella Pomagagnon offers cool mountain air, pure nature, and spectacular solitude. In autumn, golden larches make the scenery even more magical.

Recommended for well-prepared hikers with sure footing, it is one of the most spectacular yet lesser-known destinations around Cortina, ideal for those seeking peace, untouched nature, and a route off the beaten path.
