Discovering Forcella Clautana

In the wild heart of the Friulian Dolomites Natural Park, Forcella Clautana sits at an altitude of 1,432 meters, connecting the upper Valcellina to the remote Val Silisia, crossing through quiet and evocative landscapes.

The most renowned route to reach the pass is the historic Strada degli Alpini, built between 1910 and 1912 in anticipation of a conflict with the Austro-Hungarian Empire. This military trail, now fully accessible, was also used during World War I, and still retains the charm of its regular curves and stone-paved surface. The CAI trail 966, starting from Casera Casavento, winds through beech forests, alpine meadows, and panoramic viewpoints that embrace the peaks of the Friulian Dolomites.

Forcella Clautana is also accessible by mountain bike and is especially appreciated by enthusiasts of gravel biking and e-bikes, thanks to the quality of the terrain and its consistent gradient. Along the way, visitors encounter sites of great natural and cultural interest, such as the abandoned village of Le Tronconere, the Selva Lake dam, and glacial moraines that tell the geological story of the valley.

Forcella Clautana is a landmark for those who wish to experience the Friulian Dolomites in a deep, respectful, and immersive way—where nature, historical memory, and adventure come together.
