Discovering Gionghi-Cappella

Gionghi-Cappella (1,172 m), a hamlet of Lavarone (TN), is the vibrant administrative and cultural center of the Alpe Cimbra, where history, tradition and nature meet. Here you’ll find the large civic complex that houses the town hall, the Sigmund Freud municipal library, the offices of the Alpe Cimbra Tourism Agency and the modern Congress Centre—a hub for events, conferences and exhibitions.

Just a few hundred metres from the village core, in the locality of Tobia, stands the Honey Museum. This interactive space retraces the millennia-old art of alpine beekeeping, explains the bees’ life cycle and offers tastings of locally produced honeys. A little further on, the Chapel of San Rocco, built in 1878, preserves a Madonna fresco brought here during the Great War—a powerful symbol of Cimbrian devotion.

The name “Gionghi,” derived from the Cimbrian word jung (“young”), is reflected in the lively summer festivals and traditional markets that animate the squares. Folk music, folkloric dances and typical dishes such as canederli and polenta accompany celebrations devoted to the culture of the Cimbrian Plateaus.

For outdoor enthusiasts, Gionghi-Cappella is the perfect base for easy hikes to the mountain huts of Azzolini, Gasperi and Rocchetti along panoramic low-altitude trails. In winter the area transforms into a cross-country skiing playground: groomed loops link Lavarone to Folgaria through fairy-tale landscapes.
