Discovering Grigno

Southern gateway to the Valsugana, on the border with Veneto, Grigno is an authentic land where the woods, pastures, and mountain huts of the Marcesina Plateau meet traditional craftsmanship and protected nature. Together with the hamlet of Tezze, it marks the far south‑west of Trentino; in recent decades, the working of wood, marble, copper, and wrought iron has flourished again here, a legacy of a still‑vibrant material culture. The municipality extends largely across the plateau, with valley‑floor elevations around 263 m, and preserves a mosaic of environments perfect for outdoor tourism.

Among the experiences not to be missed are the spectacular karst caves of Bigonda and Calgeron, ideal for speleology enthusiasts and for those wishing to discover the limestone heart of the Valsugana. Completing the natural picture are the Fontanazzo biotope, a treasure chest of biodiversity, and the Riparo Dalmeri on the Marcesina, a prehistoric archaeological site of great value that tells of human presence at high altitudes as far back as the Paleolithic.

Grigno’s cultural heritage is expressed in its historic churches: San Ulbarico, the Old Parish Church, San Giacomo Maggiore, and Sant’Antonio da Padova—stages of an itinerary through sacred art and Alpine devotion. For those seeking adrenaline, the “alla Curva” climbing wall offers routes much appreciated by sports climbers, while the plateau’s trails and forest roads invite trekking, mountain biking, and birdwatching in every season.
