Discovering Santa Cristina Val Gardena

Located at 1,428 m a.s.l. between Ortisei and Selva, Santa Cristina Val Gardena (St. Christina in Gröden) is one of the most authentic destinations in the Dolomites. Sun-kissed and framed by the Sassolungo Group and the Odle Peaks, the village is an ideal starting point for hiking, winter sports, and immersion in Ladin culture.

In summer, Santa Cristina offers direct access to the Puez-Odle Nature Park, with spectacular trails such as Col Raiser–Seceda–Rifugio Firenze, Sëurasas, Monte Pic, the Sassolungo Circuit, and the Val Gardena Railway Trail, which recounts the history of the local railway. In winter, the village connects to the Dolomiti Superski area and the Sellaronda ski circuit, with facilities for alpine skiing, cross-country skiing (Monte Pana), and snowshoeing. The legendary Saslong slope hosts Alpine Ski World Cup races.

The village preserves a strong connection to its roots: the Parish Church of Santa Cristina, dating back to the 12th century, is among the oldest places of worship in the valley, featuring Romanesque and Gothic elements. The privately owned Castel Gardena (Fischburg), a 17th-century manor, dominates the landscape with Renaissance elegance. Ladin culture thrives through language, schools, local media, and traditional craftsmanship, such as woodcarving, which flourished from the 19th century.

Cultural life is enriched by historic associations such as the village band (since 1856) and the local choir (since 1972), alongside folk events.
