Furkelpass (Italian: Passo Furcia, Ladin: Ju de Furcia) is a scenic mountain pass at 1,789 meters above sea level, nestled between Kronplatz (Plan de Corones) and Piz da Peres. It connects Olang/Valdaora in the Puster Valley with San Vigilio di Marebbe (Al Plan de Mareo) in Val Badia, serving as a cultural and geographic bridge between German-speaking and Ladin-speaking regions of South Tyrol.

A year-round destination for hikers, cyclists, and skiers, Furkelpass offers breathtaking views of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites. In summer, it’s a starting point for panoramic hikes to Kronplatz, the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park, and the iconic Lake Braies. Well-marked trails cater to all skill levels, winding through alpine meadows and forests.

In winter, the pass becomes a hub within the Kronplatz ski resort, with slopes crossing the pass and modern lifts like the Ruis gondola. It’s ideal for alpine skiing, snowshoeing, and winter holidays, with cozy mountain huts serving traditional South Tyrolean cuisine.

Furkelpass is also a favorite among cyclists: it has featured in multiple Giro d’Italia stages and the Transalp bike tour. The 19 km climb rises 744 meters with gradients up to 15%, making it a thrilling challenge. Open year-round, the pass is accessible via public transport, cable cars, or on foot - promoting sustainable tourism.
