Discovering La Valle - Wengen
Located at 1,348 meters above sea level in the heart of Alta Badia, La Valle – Wengen is a peaceful and authentic Ladin village, officially recognized as South Tyrol’s first certified hiking village (Europäisches Wanderdorf). Surrounded by the majestic Sas dla Crusc (Sasso di Santa Croce), the meadows of Armentara, and the peaks of the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park, it’s an ideal base for nature lovers and active holidaymakers.
Five certified hiking trails cross the area, including the famous Tru di Pra, which leads to the protected Armentara meadows, home to over 190 alpine plant species in summer. The meditative trail “Memento Vivere” reaches the solitary Chapel of Santa Barbara, a 15th-century gem perched on a panoramic hill above the village, offering sweeping views of the Odle Group, Sass de Pütia, and the Marebbe Valley.
La Valle preserves a strong Ladin identity: traditional viles—rural settlements with wooden houses, barns, and stables—dot the slopes of Val Badia. The historic center features landmarks like the old Church of San Genesio, a 14th-century bell tower, and the Gothic granary of Pastrogn.
In winter, the Armentara meadows become a haven for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and tobogganing, with the Armentara–La Cialciara trail stretching 1.6 km. Nearby ski areas Alta Badia and Plan de Corones offer direct access to the Dolomiti Superski circuit and the Sella Ronda.
