Discovering Saint Lorenzen

San Lorenzo di Sebato is located just 3 km from Bruneck, where the Rienz River cuts through a wild gorge and gives rise to the Gader Valley, the ideal gateway to the Dolomites and Val Badia. Surrounded by hills and green fields, the village is appreciated for preserving the close bond between man and nature, offering a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere along its streets.

Main attractions include the Castles of San Michele and Badia, elegant residences, and characteristic farmhouses perched on the surrounding hills. San Lorenzo di Sebato is rich in history: its wide valley has been inhabited since ancient times. In 1857 a milestone was discovered, now housed at the Ferdinandeum Museum in Innsbruck; a faithful reproduction can be admired in the village. Remains of the Roman settlement of Sebatum, including houses and military quarters, were also found in the area and are now exhibited in the Museum Mansio Sebatum, the first South Tyrolean museum dedicated to the Roman era.

Notable buildings include the parish church, with its sloping roof bell tower, which houses the masterpiece “Madonna of the Grapes” by Michael Pacher, dated 1462.

San Lorenzo offers more than culture: in summer it is popular with hikers and cyclists, thanks to the Puster Valley cycle path passing right through the village. In winter, a shuttle service connects the village to the ski slopes of Plan de Corones. With these features, San Lorenzo di Sebato is a destination suitable for all seasons, offering visitors a mix of nature, sports, and history.
