Discovering Passenjoch

Located at 2,440 meters above sea level in the Zillertal Alps, the Passenjoch, is a scenic mountain pass connecting the Selva dei Molini Valley with the Fundres Valley, along the renowned Pfunderer Höhenweg, one of South Tyrol’s most captivating high-altitude trekking routes.

The pass is surrounded by peaks such as the Grinth, Flemmberg, and Passennock, and offers spectacular views of alpine lakes like the Passensee and Goldsee, natural mirrors nestled in an untouched landscape. The trail is recommended for experienced hikers, with sections crossing alpine pastures, glacial scree, and grassy slopes, and a positive elevation gain that can exceed 800 meters.

Along the way, you’ll encounter historic alpine huts such as the Passenalm and Oberen Passenalm, living testaments to Tyrolean rural culture, where you can savor traditional dishes like canederli, speck, and mountain cheeses. The path is well-marked and intersects with other hiking routes leading to the Riegeljoch, Tiefrastenhütte, and Hochsäge-Scharte.
