Discovering Gais

Gais, charming municipality in the Puster Valley located at 840 meters altitude, represents the gateway to the Tures and Aurina Valleys in the heart of South Tyrol. This picturesque Alpine village stands out for its rich historical heritage and privileged position within the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park.

The village preserves precious medieval testimonies, including the parish church of St. John from the 12th century, considered one of the oldest in Tyrol, and the evocative Neuhaus Castle, built between 1240 and 1245, reachable with a pleasant 20-minute walk through the forest.

Gais offers numerous outdoor activities in every season: the Aurina Valley Cycle Path crosses the village connecting it to Campo Tures, while Lake Baggalocke provides summer refreshment for swimming. Hiking enthusiasts can undertake excursions to Windschartenkopf Peak (3,045 m) and other Dolomites trails.

In winter, the locality becomes an ideal base to reach the ski slopes of Plan de Corones and SkiWorld Ahrntal, while also offering cross-country skiing tracks, sledding routes and snowshoeing excursions. The authentic atmosphere of the village, with its South Tyrolean traditions and typical architecture, makes Gais a favorite destination for those seeking relaxation among the South Tyrol mountains.
