Discovering Westliche Möselescharte

The Westliche Möselescharte is an impressive alpine pass in the Zillertal Alps, situated at around 3,370 meters along the main ridge marking the border between South Tyrol (Italy) and Tyrol (Austria). The pass lies west of the Großer Möseler (3,480 m), the second-highest peak of the Zillertal Alps after the Hochfeiler, and dominates a spectacular landscape of glaciers and majestic peaks.

From here, the view stretches over the Eastern Nöfesferner glacier, the nearby Möselekopf (3,389 m), and the valleys opening southwards toward the Pfitschertal (Val di Vizze). On the Austrian side, the pass connects to the scenic Zemmgrundtal valley.

The Westliche Möselescharte is not only a remarkable viewpoint but also an important spot for mountaineering and ski touring, forming part of the famous Zillertal Alps ski traverse and serving as a link between high-altitude huts and routes. The nearest shelter is the Furtschaglhaus, about 3 km away.

Thanks to its strategic position and the wild beauty of the glacial landscape, the Westliche Möselescharte is a sought-after destination for experienced hikers and mountaineers eager to experience the authentic grandeur of the mountains at the Italy-Austria border.
