Discovering Schlegeisscharte

Schlegeisscharte is a high-altitude mountain pass located at around 2,800 meters in the heart of the Zillertal Alps, between Riva di Tures and the Austrian Schlegeisspeicher basin. Set in a breathtaking alpine environment, it’s a sought-after destination for experienced hikers and mountaineers, thanks to its glacial landscapes and proximity to the impressive north face of the Weißzint (Cima Bianca).

The trail leading to Schlegeisscharte winds through rugged terrain: glaciers, moraines, rocky ridges, and glacial basins alternate along a demanding but panoramic route. The pass serves as a strategic access point to technical climbs on the Weißzint north wall, one of the most iconic faces in the Rieserferner Group, popular among climbers for mixed ice and rock routes.

In summer, Schlegeisscharte is part of spectacular cross-border traverses connecting mountain huts and valleys between Italy and Austria, offering a fully immersive alpine experience. In winter, the area attracts enthusiasts of ski touring and snowshoeing, drawn by its remote setting and abundant snow.
