Discovering Grübelschaarte

Gruebelschaarte, also known as Forcella Gruebels, is a scenic alpine hiking pass nestled in the heart of the Sesto Dolomites, within the Tre Cime Nature Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This panoramic crossing links Mount Elmo to the wild ridges of the Popera Group, offering a genuine experience for mountain lovers and nature enthusiasts.

A top destination for expert hikers and nature photographers, Gruebelschaarte provides breathtaking views of the Three Peaks of Lavaredo, Croda dei Toni, and the Sesto Sundial. The trails are part of historic routes like the Strada degli Alpini, which preserves remnants of World War I, including trenches and lookout posts.

In summer, the landscape bursts with rare alpine blooms such as edelweiss, alpine poppy, and dwarf rhododendron, while wildlife includes marmots, chamois, and golden eagles. The area is part of the Biodiversity Monitoring South Tyrol project, confirming its ecological and scenic value.

Rudolf Stolz Museum in Sesto is dedicated to alpine art, and the Tre Cime Visitor Center in Dobbiaco, with exhibits on geology, wildlife, and the Dolomites’ wartime history. The region is also steeped in Ladin heritage, with enduring linguistic and artisanal traditions.
