Discovering Rossruggscharte

The Rossruggscharte, located in the municipality of Selva dei Molini (Mühlwald) in the Ahrntal Valley, is a remote alpine pass at around 3,100 meters above sea level, nestled among the peaks of the Zillertal Alps, right on the border between South Tyrol and Tyrol (Austria). Little frequented and without marked hiking trails, it is a destination reserved for experienced and well-equipped mountaineers, often reached as part of high-altitude glacier crossings.

The landscape is dominated by glaciers, rocky ridges, and pristine high-mountain terrain. The Rossruggscharte lies between the Großer Möseler (3,480 m) and the Turnerkamp (3,418 m), two of the most imposing summits in the area, and is accessible only via alpine routes from the Austrian side (via the Furtschaglhaus) or from the Italian side, starting from the Neves Glacier.

Down in the valley, the village of Selva dei Molini offers numerous hikes for all levels: from the Alpine Pasture Trail (Almhüttenweg) to the Selva dei Molini Lake, and the Neves Dam via ferrata, with spectacular views and outdoor activities for families and sports enthusiasts. In winter, the Tamarix Snow & Fun Park provides snow fun for all ages.

The Rossruggscharte is one of South Tyrol’s wildest and most fascinating destinations - perfect for those seeking adventure, solitude, and glacial landscapes far from the beaten path.
