Discovering Pfitscherjoch

The Passo di Vizze (Pfitscher Joch) is an enchanted corner at 2,276 meters, on the border between Italy and Austria, immersed in the wild heart of the Zillertal Alps. This alpine pass connects the Val di Vizze with the Austrian valley of the Zamser Grund, opening the way to the picturesque Zillertal.

Ideal destination for hikers and lovers of the authentic mountain, the pass offers breathtaking views and trails immersed in unspoiled nature. Among the most popular destinations is the artificial lake Schlegeisspeicher, just across the Austrian border, easily accessible on foot from the pass. Here is also the Passo di Vizze hut, a historic foothold built in 1888, now a stop for those who travel along the great cross-border routes.

From the pass you can admire the majestic Gran Pilastro (3510 m), with its spectacular waterfalls that descend along the north side. Access to the pass is via a dirt road closed to traffic, except for those who obtain permission from the forest station in Vipiteno. A recent car park at the 4th bend marks the starting point for those who want to continue on foot or by bike.
