Discovering Mühlwalderjöchl
The Mühlwalderjöchl is a mountain pass located at an altitude of 2,342 meters between the Ahrntal Valley and the Selva dei Molini Valley, in the heart of South Tyrol. This scenic route is a captivating hiking destination, nestled within the Zillertal Alps, and serves as a strategic point for trekking routes, ski mountaineering, and nature photography.
The pass is accessible from Rio Bianco (Weißenbach) and Selva dei Molini (Mühlwald) via well-marked trails such as the Daimerweg and the Kellerbauerweg, which wind through alpine meadows, larch forests, and traditional mountain huts. Suitable for moderately experienced hikers, the route offers spectacular views of the Rieserferner Group, the Durra Range, and the Dolomites.
The region is renowned for its alpine biodiversity and for thematic trails focused on water, a central element of the Selva dei Molini Valley. Along the route, hikers will find historic alpine huts like the Weizgruber Alm and the Mitterberger Alm, serving traditional South Tyrolean dishes such as kaiserschmarrn and canederli.
Thanks to its elevated position and peaceful surroundings, the Mühlwalderjöchl is perfect for birdwatching, nature photography, and wildlife observation. Marmots, alpine raptors, and deer are commonly sighted—especially in the early morning hours.
