Discovering Lappacherjöchl
Located at 2,371 meters above sea level in the Zillertal Alps, the Lappacherjöchl – also known as the Forcella di Lappago – is a scenic mountain pass connecting the area of Lappago (Lappach) with the Stifter Alm and the Weißenbach slope, in the wild heart of the municipality of Selva dei Molini (Mühlwald). This panoramic saddle is a highlight along the Kellerbauerweg, one of South Tyrol’s most authentic and lesser-known hiking trails.
The hike to Lappacherjöchl is recommended for experienced trekkers, featuring sections over scree slopes, grassy ridges, and rocky paths, with an elevation gain that can exceed 1,000 meters. The route offers breathtaking views of peaks such as the Tristenspitz, Ringelstein, Schaflahnernock, and Schreckwand, and passes through pristine alpine environments where hikers may encounter ibexes, golden eagles, and a resilient high-mountain flora thriving among rocks and pastures.
Culturally, the area is deeply rooted in Ladin and Tyrolean traditions, reflected in the stone-and-wood mountain huts, local cuisine, and stories passed down by valley dwellers. Nearby alpine farms such as the Rinsbacher Alm and Stifter Alm offer authentic hospitality and traditional dishes like canederli, speck, and alpine cheeses, making the hike a truly multisensory experience.
