Discovering Barbiano

Set on the green slopes of the Isarco Valley, just south of Chiusa and at the foot of the majestic Corno del Renon, Barbiano is a peaceful and authentic village. Its iconic leaning bell tower overlooks a landscape filled with idyllic hamlets, ancient churches, historic castles and a wide network of hiking trails immersed in nature.


Not far from the village, in the municipality of Ponte Gardena, stands Trostburg Castle (or Castel Forte), once home to the medieval poet Oswald von Wolkenstein. Visitors can admire the beautiful knights' hall, preserved frescoes, the Gothic stube, the medieval wine press—the largest in the province—and the fascinating South Tyrolean Castles Museum.


Also worth a visit are the enchanting Three Churches, built in Romanesque style on a plateau between Barbiano and Villandro, forming a perfect triangle of peace and spirituality.


Nature lovers will enjoy the stunning Barbiano Waterfalls, accessible on foot via a scenic forest path, or a hike to Corno del Renon, which offers breathtaking views from the Dolomites to the Austrian Alps.


An unmissable excursion, especially in autumn for the foliage, is the Chestnut Trail, where a new panoramic bridge connects Barbiano with San Ingenuino, offering magnificent views of the valley and waterfalls.
