Discovering Prati
In the heart of the Upper Valle Isarco, just a few kilometers from Vipiteno (Sterzing), lies Prati (Pfitsch), the main village of the municipality of Val di Vizze (Pfitschertal)—one of the most untouched and peaceful areas in South Tyrol. Located at 980 meters above sea level, this alpine village is the perfect starting point for hiking, active holidays, and relaxing stays surrounded by nature.
Once a mining settlement, Prati preserves fascinating historical landmarks such as Moos Castle (Schloss Moos), dating back to the 14th century and now a retirement home, and the Wiesenheim Residence, both accessible via the scenic Roanderweg trail. The Parish Church of the Holy Cross and the octagonal Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre reflect the village’s deep spiritual roots, celebrated annually through traditional Easter rituals.
Val di Vizze is a paradise for mountain lovers: from Prati, trails of all levels lead through the valley and up to the Hochfeiler (Gran Pilastro), the highest peak in the area. The Tyrolean High Trail (Tiroler Höhenweg), connecting the Pfitscherjochhaus to the Europahütte, offers breathtaking views of the Zillertal Alps.
In winter, the area features cross-country skiing, ski touring, and an ice-skating rink. In summer, the Prati municipal park with a Kneipp path and mini-golf is ideal for families. Just a short walk away, the Balneum indoor and outdoor pool in Vipiteno is easily accessible.
