Discovering Borca di Cadore
Nestled in the heart of the Dolomiti Bellunesi, a UNESCO World Heritage site, Borca di Cadore is an ideal destination for those seeking nature, relaxation, and authenticity. Located at about 940 meters above sea level, this charming village offers breathtaking views of the Dolomite peaks, including the majestic Monte Antelao, known as the "King of the Dolomites."
A perfect starting point for hiking, walking, and outdoor activities, Borca is surrounded by forests, trails, and alpine paths that offer thrills in every season. In summer, you can enjoy trekking, mountain biking, and climbing, while in winter, you can reach the renowned ski slopes of Cortina d’Ampezzo and San Vito di Cadore in just a few minutes.
For cycling enthusiasts, there are two must-do routes. The first follows the stretch of the former Dolomiti railway, part of the "Long Route of the Dolomites," a loop from Calalzo to Dobbiaco. There are two alternatives here, both about 6 km with a slight uphill: the first paved route connects the former Borca toll booth to San Vito, the second connects Borca to Vodo di Cadore. For the more trained cyclists, it is possible to also reach Cortina d’Ampezzo and Dobbiaco, immersing yourself in spectacular landscapes. The second route follows the Ancient Royal Road, the historic route that connected the Venetian plain to Tyrol. It is a loop of about 5 km starting from the village, reaching Serdes in the municipality of San Vito di Cadore, and returning.
The center of Borca preserves precious examples of Cadorino architecture, with ancient tabià (wooden haylofts) and stone houses, telling the story of the territory. Not to be missed is the Church of Saints Simone and Taddeo, an example of alpine sacred art, and the Eni Village, designed in the 1950s by architect Edoardo Gellner, an original example of modern architecture integrated into the mountain landscape.
In winter, the nearest ski lifts are those of San Vito di Cadore, just 3 km away, and the famous ski area of Cortina d’Ampezzo, 12 km away. For cross-country skiing lovers, the Villanova hamlet offers two trails immersed in snowy nature.
