Discovering Cardano
At 290 meters above sea level, Cardano is the valley-floor village of the municipality of Cornedo all’Isarco, located in South Tyrol just minutes from Bolzano. As the administrative center of the municipality, Cardano is a strategic base for exploring the Dolomites sustainably, surrounded by nature, slow mobility and local culture.
Cardano marks the starting point of the Eisacktal Cycle Path, which connects Bolzano to Chiusa and Bressanone along the Eisack River. A particularly scenic stretch is the Art Cycle Path Bolzano–Cardano–Blumau, enriched by the sculpture garden Augenreise, a project by the protected workshop KIMM under the motto “Art knows no disability.”
Hikers will find a variety of themed trails: the Kunterweg, a medieval route once linking Bolzano to the Brenner Pass; the Path of Pearls, a five-day itinerary through Nova Ponente, Nova Levante, Collepietra and Tires; and the Knight’s Trail, a challenging route toward Collepietra. From Cardano, experienced hikers can also reach the Bolzano Mountain Hut at the foot of the Sciliar massif, via a panoramic and demanding trail.
Alpine culture thrives thanks to the Cardano Alpini Group, founded in 1929 and still active with commemorative events and community initiatives. The local cuisine reflects South Tyrolean tradition: knödel, speck, grilled meats, fresh fish and apple strudel are staples of the regional culinary heritage.
