Discovering Schwarzbachjoch
Schwarzbachjoch is a high mountain pass located at around 2,800 meters above sea level, in the heart of the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park, between the Riva di Tures Valley and the Austrian side of the Zillertal. Remote and rarely visited, it’s an ideal destination for experienced hikers seeking silence, wild nature, and breathtaking alpine views.
The trail to Schwarzbachjoch winds through challenging terrain, crossing glacial moraines, rocky basins, and high-altitude pastures, with stunning views of peaks over 3,000 meters such as Monte Nevoso, Monte Magro, and Croda Nera. The pass is often included in alpine traverses that connect the Rieserferner Hut with cross-border routes into Austria, making it a strategic point for exploring the borderland, Alps.
In summer, Schwarzbachjoch is perfect for high-altitude trekking and nature photography, while in winter it becomes a haven for ski touring and snowshoeing, surrounded by snow and silence. The area also preserves historical traces of old pastoral and military routes, reflecting the deep connection between humans and the mountains.
